Dear Reader,
This is my first post, so please allow me to introduce myself: my name is Petra Szabó, and I work as a career consultant and coach, operating as a sole proprietor.
Throughout my career, I have worked as an employee at both small and large companies, experiencing roles as both an employee and a leader. However, since 2017, I have felt the desire to become an entrepreneur, specifically to become a helping professional, a consultant, and a coach.
Since making this decision, I have completed a postgraduate business coach course as well as a master's degree in human resource consulting to ensure I have the necessary professional knowledge to support my clients. For most of my professional career, I have worked in human resources-related fields, and whenever I had the chance, I helped those who came to me with improving their resumes, interview skills, and resolving workplace dilemmas.
I believe that I can only help others if I am doing well myself, which is why I have placed great emphasis on self-awareness and self-development for years. I have participated in a 150-hour psychodrama group, attended several conferences, and visiting a psychologist is also not unfamiliar to me.
But enough about me, because my business isn't about me—it's much more about you!
I created Karriering to help as many people as possible find work that they are passionate about, that they love to do with all their heart, and that they don't even consider "work."
You might think this sounds absurd, that such a thing doesn't exist, but if you do a little research, you will find plenty of people who have found the "flow" experience in their work, and time flies by because they truly enjoy what they do.
So, what do you need to achieve this?
The first and most important step is to examine your current situation and figure out why you don't enjoy your job. It could be that you're doing tasks that suit you, but your employer is simply overloading you with so much work that the quantity itself is frustrating, robbing the joy from your daily life.
It's also possible that through self-reflection, you'll realize you don't even know why you're in your current position. You don't understand how you got there, but you've been doing it for a long time, and up until this moment, it never crossed your mind that something might be wrong or that things could be different.
Perhaps your work is too monotonous, or maybe you're overwhelmed by too much social interaction, leaving you drained by the end of the day. You watch others manage to pursue hobbies, meet friends, or do anything else in their free time, while you're just staring blankly, unable to understand how they do it.
The possibilities are endless. Everyone has their own reason for wanting to make a change.
Recognizing "what's not working" is the first step, and once you've done that, you're already halfway to success. However, this is where the harder task comes in—defining what you want instead. This is incredibly difficult! While the younger generations are more adept at this, many in the millennial, Gen X, and boomer generations still find it hard to accept that work doesn't have to be just a way to make money, but can actually be a source of joy.
Many have studied the joy of work, and I will certainly write more about this in a future post. For now, let me just say that if you feel like work doesn't bring you joy, it's worth considering what could make it so. Would fewer tasks help? Working in a different-sized organization? Changing jobs? Or perhaps working in a completely different field?
You don't need to have answers to these questions yet, but if you feel that something isn't right, it's important to ask yourself these questions—or if you can't, find someone who will ask them for you.
This is where a coaching-oriented career consultant comes in. This is how I can help.
If you're interested in my work, you can find various content under the name "Karriering" on major social media platforms, and from now on, you can expect a blog post here every week. If you feel that it's time for a change, feel free to book a free consultation with me.
